Post-election victims’ lawyer weighs in on Ruto, Sang ICC ruling

Post-election victims’ lawyer Wilfred Nderitu has expressed optimism that Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda will appeal ICC’s no-case to answer ruling against William Ruto and Joshua Arap Sang.

Speaking after the ruling made on Tuesday, Nderitu further said that it is his hope that the trust fund for victims will be activated to assist all those who were affected.

In the ruling, ICC stated that: “The charges are hereby vacated and the accused are discharged from the process, without prejudice to their presumption of innocence or the prosecutor’s right to re-prosecute the case at a later time.”

“The victims should be invited to express views and concerns in relation to reparation or assistance in lieu of reparation,” read the ruling.
