Postmortem conducted on bodies of 10 people who died in Homa Bay boat tragedy

The postmortem was conducted on Monday morning by Dr. Peter Ogolla in the presence of the family members of the deceased.

Speaking after the postmortem, Dr. Ogolla who also serves as the hospital Chief Executive Officer said they have already handed over burial permits to the families.

He confirmed that all the ten bodies have been identified by their relatives during the process of postmortem.

On Tuesday, September 28 a requiem mass for the deceased will be held at a ground near Homa Bay Vocational training centre about 500 meters from the shore of Lake Victoria.

The mass will be presided over by the county Chaplain before the bodies are handed over to families and relatives for burial.

County Director for Disaster Eliud Onyango earlier said that the Homa Bay County Government will take care of all the burial expenses including buying coffins and paying for transport.

The 10 passengers died while traveling to Ndhuru beach in Mbita Sub County from Pier Beach in Homa Bay Town. Eight other people who were on board were rescued from the tragedy.
