Pre-trial case for NHIF case set for March

The pre-trial hearing of the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) case has been set for March 18, 2019, despite defense lawyers stating their readiness to begin trial.

In their submissions, the prosecution noted that they will rely on 20,500 documents as exhibits.

Prosecution further called on the court to extend orders that Webtribe Limited which hosts NHIF servers be barred from accessing its offices – a request that was granted by the court.

The company is accused of obtaining Ksh.1.1 billion from NHIF, having acquired it between August 15, 2014 and October 31, 2018.

The investigating officer however pleaded with the court to grant them one month to supply all the exhibits.

Ksh.1 billion was reportedly lost through the Jambo Pay service at the NHIF, leading to the arrest and arraignment of top officials at the instruction of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.
