Preach peace, British High Commissioner urges Kenyan leaders

British High Commissioner Nic Hailey has called on Kenyan leaders to preach peace and shun division politics especially at this time when the country is headed to a General Election.

Hailey said the country is in dire need of peaceful coexistence and tolerance, saying no one is ready to experience the aftermath of reckless talks.

“We all need to pray for peace in your politics,” said Hailey.

He challenged Kenyans to foster peace and unity saying this was the right instrument to steer up meaningful developments.

The Envoy was speaking at Makutano area in Ngobit Ward of Laikipia County where he was joined by County Governor Joshua Irungu among other local leaders.

He emphasized the need for peace adding that the British Government was committed to working together with Kenya to help spur development projects that will help the common mwananchi.

“We want to work with you to bring health and development to the people of Laikipia. We want to build roads, bridges, schools and hospitals to train people to bring jobs to this county and the rest of Kenya. We do that because we are proud of the work we do together as the United Kingdom and Kenya,” said Hailey.

He also added that the British Government would continue supporting Kenya in the fight against terrorism, and especially in the on-going efforts to deal with the Al Shabaab militia in neighbouring Somalia.
