Pregnant teenager commits suicide in Migori

A 12-year-old Class Six pupil from Kimai Primary School in Kanyarwanda region in Migori County committed suicide on Sunday after discovering that she was pregnant.

One of her relatives, Ms Mary Wangari,  said that it was only after they noticed that she was missing for hours that they realized that one of the houses in their homestead was locked from the inside. Upon breaking into it, they found her body dangling from the roof on a rope.

She added that the late Ms Juma left behind a suicide note.

The teenager left a suicide note revealing that “she could no longer continue living because her family members were too harsh on her.”

Nashon Odira, the area chief, said that the teenager, Morine Juma, had moved from her parent’s home and was living with her grandparents.

Teenage suicide cases are on the rise in Kenya with most of the victims choosing to end their lives because of unidentified reasons.

In May this year,  the late James Njenga who was only 16 years old committed suicide by hanging himself on a hotel’s balcony after enganging himself in a deadly online game.
