President El-Sisiin Kenya for historic State Visit

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt arrived in the country for the first State Visit to Kenya by a sitting Egyptian Head of State.

President El-Sisi, who was received by President Uhuru Kenyatta, was accorded full military honours including a 21-gun salute at State House, Nairobi.

The two leaders held one-on-one talks before leading their delegations in bilateral talks aimed at bolstering cooperation between Kenya and Egypt.

The total volume of trade between Kenya and Egypt stood at about Ksh 45 billion (Approximately $450 million) in 2015 while the highest value was approximately Ksh 59 billion (Approximately $597 million) in 2012, according to official statistics.

Kenya’s total exports to Egypt were valued at approximately Ksh 20 billion with a negative trade balance of Ksh 5.6 billion in 2015.

These exports comprise a limited number of products dominated by tea at 96 per cent of the total exports to Egypt.

Egypt is the second largest importer of Kenyan tea.
