President Kenyatta accuses CORD of being politically greedy

President Uhuru Kenyatta has admonished the opposition Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) of practising politics of greed and self-centredness.

Addressing residents in Eldama Ravine on Wednesday, President Kenyatta claimed that CORD leaders have perpetuated hate in their public addresses aimed at causing divisions in the country.

“If the opposition wants to compete, they should do it on the development-front and not hate and enmity,” he said.

President Kenyatta further noted that they declined the grand coalition model of government, identical to the one assumed by retired President Mwai Kibaki and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in 2007, to avert divisions and infighting in government.

He rallied political parties affiliated to the Jubilee coalition to merge into one party – Jubilee Party – in the spirit of unity ahead of the 2017 elections.

“We decided that our priority as Jubilee is peace and unity. Enemity cannot bring development buy if we unite we will accomplish a lot as a country.”

He also defended his foreign travels saying it is through the trips that the Jubilee government has been able to get funds to initiate development projects in the country.

“The money that the government has injected in Baringo County alone will be Ksh 12.2 billion by the end of the current financial year. Where has that money come from if not the national government?” he said.

“Why, then do they accuse us of making numerous foreign trips and yet it through that the trips that we have been able to make such progress?”

“They will know how it is like to run the government when they take over in 2032,” stated the President amid cheers from the crowd.

In his address, Deputy President William Ruto called on all parties affiliated to Jubilee coalition to dissolve and join Jubilee Party ahead of the next elections.

Ruto stated that by facing the next elections under one strong party, Jubilee will help promote unity in the country and ensure a win in the polls.

The Head of State and his deputy are on a tour of Nakuru and Baringo counties.

While President Kenyatta will be focusing on development projects during his visit, it is expected that he will use the opportunity to rally the county to support his candidature in the 2017 elections.
