President Kenyatta accuses Odinga of igniting 2007/08 post poll violence

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday blamed opposition leader Raila Odinga for allegedly playing a key role in the 2007/08 post-election violence that saw him taken to the International Criminal Court.

Speaking at Nyanturago Stadium while on a tour of Kisii County, President Kenyatta accused Odinga of spreading hatred during the 2007 poll and also in the run-up to the August General Election.

The 2007/08 poll skirmishes saw more than 1,500 people killed, more than 600,000 others displaced resulting in ICC opening charges against Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto in a case that later flopped.

The Head of State further warned young people against rallying behind NASA leaders, saying they had nothing to show for their stint in the grand coalition government headed by Mwai Kibaki and then Premier Raila Odinga.

In a quick rejoinder, however, Odinga termed the president’s sentiments as farfetched adding that Kisii County the president was visiting has with the highest number of the post-election victims that Jubilee administration was unable to settle four years on.

In a strongly worded statement to newsrooms, Odinga further accused Kenyatta of being at the helm of the vast corruption in the country.
