President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured Mpeketoni residents of security.

He said the Government has scaled up security in the area and asked the residents to cooperate by reporting any suspicious people to the authorities so that no room will be left for criminals to disrupt peace.

“I know that majority of Lamu residents are peace-loving people. Let us work together to ensure that the security that we have enjoyed for years is not undermined by a few evil-minded people,” President Kenyatta said.

The President spoke in Mpeketoni after issuing 2,004 title deeds to land owners at Mkunumbi in Lamu County at the start of a two day visit that will also see issuance of another 2069 landownership documents at Faza to residents of Swahili villages in the islands of Ndau, Myabogi, Mbwajumwali and Kizingitini.

President Kenyatta urged Mpeketoni residents to live together peacefully, saying their unity will help curb insecurity.

The Head of State also emphasised his intention to unite the whole country through the Jubilee Alliance Party.

He said the goals of a united, peaceful and prosperous nation will not be achieved when the country is divided by political parties formed along tribal lines.

“That is why Deputy President William Ruto and I have resolved to bring all Kenyans together under the Jubilee Alliance Party. Tribal parties will not take this country anywhere.”

The President also said he is focused on implementing development projects in all parts of the country and will not allow noise to derail his quest to improve the lives of Kenyans.

He was accompanied by Lamu Governor Issa Timamy, Senators Abu Chiaba and Kipchumba Murkomen, Cabinet Secretaries Joseph Nkaissery (Interior), Eugene Wamalwa (Water and Irrigation) and Najib Balala (Tourism) among others.
