President Kenyatta Condemns Bomb Attack On Somali MP

While mourning the fallen MP, the Head of State intimated that Kenya was in solidarity with the people of Somalia in the fight against terror.

President Kenyatta said the death of Mohamed was not only a big blow to his family and the Federal Government but also to the people of Somalia who he served with commitment and great dedication as  Member of Parliament.

“His contribution to rebuilding Somalia will always be remembered and honoured by those he has left behind,” The head of state said.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of Kenya, I convey to the Federal Government and the people of Somalia, as well as the family of the late Hon. Mohamed our heartfelt condolences,” Kenyatta added.

Islamist group Al-Shabab have since communicated to Reuters news agency claiming the responsibility in the attack on the MP.

Another MP, Mohamed Ali was wounded in the blast.

This incident comes as the Somali government is hosting a security conference.

Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed condemned the car bomb terming it as cowardly.

During the opening of the three-day conference, Somalia's President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud pointed out that the lawlessness that has plagued Somalia for the last 23 years is coming to an end.

Somalia has been in constant war since 1991, when Saud Barre was ousted.
