President Kenyatta, DP Ruto launch projects in Kilifi

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto on Friday launched several projects that will boost the economy and improve the welfare of Coast residents.

At Malindi, Kilifi County, President Kenyatta launched the tarmacking of the Ksh 4.2 billion Malindi – Kakoneni – Sala Gate, a key road that will open up the area for faster development.

The 110-kilometre road project, implemented under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure’s Roads 10,000 Low Volume Seal Roads Programme, will be completed in September 2019.

Speaking during the launch, President Kenyatta said his administration is focused on implementing development projects that will lift the lives of Kenyans across the country.

“When we came here in January, we promised that this road will be constructed. We have come to fulfill that promise,” President Kenyatta said.

He indicated the Jubilee government’s readiness to work with all leaders who are respectful and keen to contribute to the country’s development.

“Confrontational, abusive and divisive politics will not help to solve the challenges facing the country,” President Kenyatta said.

Apart from infrastructure, President Kenyatta said the Jubilee government is focused on improving health and has invested Ksh 400 million to provide specialised medical equipment at Malindi Hospital through the Managed Equipment Service project.

“We want to ensure that residents of Malindi and Kilifi County at large can access specialised medical treatment without having to travel far for the services,” President Kenyatta said.

The President said under the Managed Equipment Service project, Malindi Hospital will be equipped with MRI, theatre, renal dialysis, radiology and intensive care Unit facilities.

President Kenyatta, who had earlier launched the rehabilitation of the Hola-Bura-Charidende- Madogo road in Tana River County, said more than 400 public primary schools have been connected to electricity among other developments in Kilifi County.

DP Ruto said the government has committed Ksh 500 million for the construction of five technical training colleges in the county to empower the youth with skills that will enable them engage in gainful activities.

The Deputy President said the Government has also set aside Ksh 500 million to build the Ronald Ngala Utalii College, the second largest hospitality college in the country after the Nairobi Utalii College.

“We recognise the importance of tourism in creating jobs for the youth in the Coast region and the rest of Kenya. That is why we are making all these investments,” the Deputy President said.

The Deputy President said the Jubilee Party is hinged on the quest to unite all Kenyans regardless of tribe or religion.

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi commended President Kenyatta and the Jubilee Government for launching the Malindi – Kakoneni – Sala Gate road, saying it will improve the lives of the people of Kilifi County.

Other speakers included Kilifi North Member of Parliament Gideon Mung’aro thanked the national Government for the roads, water, electricity and health projects implemented in the county.

By a show of hands, Mung’aro led Malindi residents in declaring their support for the Jubilee Party, saying they will work with the party for its development record.

President Kenyatta later launched the Kilifi informal settlements access roads – Mtaani Section at the Diamond Junction in Kilifi town. He also commissioned specialised medical equipment at Kilifi Hospital.
