President Kenyatta mourns 26 people killed in tragic crash

President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned the 26 people who died in a tragic road accident at Kambu along the Nairobi – Mombasa highway last night.

The president urged motorists to be extra careful and observe traffic rules to avoid road accidents.

He wished a quick recovery to those injured in the accident and are either recuperating at home or admitted in various hospitals.

The accident took place when a Mombasa-bound bus collided head-on with a tanker along Nairobi-Mombasa highway Tuesday morning.

In a statement to newsrooms, the president also mourned former Foreign Affairs Minister Fredrick Lawrence Munyua Waiyaki who died this morning at the age of 91.

President Kenyatta described the late Waiyaki as an illustrious son of Kenya and a pioneer diplomat who played a leading role in laying the foundation for the country’s post-independence development.

“As we mourn and pay homage to this visionary leader, let us also celebrate his life and achievements. Although Hon. Waiyaki has left us, his inspirational life will remain a great legacy to his family and the nation,” President Kenyatta said.

Mr Waiyaki, 91, died this morning while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital.
