President Kenyatta mourns Serbian ambassador to Kenya

President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of condolence to President Tomislav Nikolić and the people of Serbia following the death of the Serbian Ambassador to Kenya Ivan Zivkovic.

The president also condoled with the family of Ambassador Zivkovic who passed on while undergoing treatment in Nairobi Sunday evening.

President Kenyatta said the death of Ambassador Zivkovic is not only a blow to his country but also to Kenya.

He pointed out that since his posting to Kenya, Ambassador Zivkovic has been working tirelessly to improve bilateral and trade relations between the two countries, leading to accelerated bilateral relations in different sectors including defense.

The Head of State also said the late Ambassador Zivkovic strongly advocated for education and thereby increased tremendously the number of scholarships awarded to the Kenyan youth by the Serbian government.

Mr Kenyatta said, being the only Embassy which serves Serbia in the East African region, the late ambassador had closely been collaborating with regional states to build strong ties between the people of East Africa and Serbia.

“It is unfortunate that we have lost a great and influential diplomat who was keen in strengthening relations between the people of Serbia and the East African citizens,” said the President.

He assured of his government’s continued cooperation with the Serbian government to achieve the aspirations of the people of the two countries.
