President Kenyatta promises tough action against hate mongers

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, November 10 issued a stern warning against politicians who engage in hate speech and incitement saying that they will face the full force of law.

The President, who was speaking when he joined religious leaders from Elgeyo Marakwet County for a fundraiser at a city hotel on Wednesday night, insisted that any politician, whether from the ruling party or the opposition, who breaks the law by engaging in hate speech as the country approaches the General Election will be dealt with mercilessly.

“Politicians should not think that they are untouchable. If you go out there and incite Kenyans we will take action against you. And when action is taken against you, do not complain that it is politics,” he said.

He commended the religious leaders for uniting for a common cause and said that their example is worth emulating.

President Kenyatta also urged Kenyans to remain united and to work in harmony for the development of the country.

Among those present were Elgeyo Marakwet Governor, Alex Tolgos, and Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen, Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly Minority Leader, Benson Kiptire, and Member of County Assembly, Victor Kilimo.
