President Kenyatta To Address Graft In Parliament

The Head of State is expected to address, among other issues, corruption allegations among leaders, the rising banditry attacks, the cost of living and government's plans as it marks two years in office.

Parliament has been in the limelight for the past several weeks over allegations of corruption touching on various departmental committees among them the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) led by Budalangi Member of Parliament Ababu Namwamba and the Agriculture Committee chaired by Mandera North MP Adan Noor.

Mr. Namwamba, together with some members of PAC, has been accused of receiving bribes from Defence PS Mutea Iringo to doctor a report implicating officials at the Office of the President over misappropriation of public funds. Both Namwamba and Iringo have denied the allegations.

INCREASED POWER GENERATION

Mr. Noor, on the other hand, has been accused of receiving Ksh 4 million from sugar barons to omit their names from the report on the under-dealings at Mumias Sugar company that have plunged the sugar miller into a financial crisis.

Other than the rampant corruption allegations, touching on Parliament and other government institutions including NSSF, Kenyans will also be eager to hear what President Kenyatta will say in regards to the cost of living.

In his speech during the commissioning of an additional 140MW of geothermal power at Olkaria in Naivasha last month, President Kenyatta stated that price of essential commodities must come down due to increased generation of clean and affordable energy.

The President had promised a reduction e cost of production for both local and export produce that would in turn reduce the cost of living.

Kenyans will be clinging on this promise as they wait to see what the government is doing to implement the promise.
