President Kenyatta to appeal inclusion of Aukot in repeat poll

President Uhuru Kenyatta intends to appeal the decision by the High Court that included Third way Alliance presidential candidate Ekuro Aukot in the fresh presidential election race.

Through his lawyer Tom Macharia, the president told the court that he intends to file at the Court of Appeal by Monday next week.

This comes even after an application to stay the High Court judgment that allowed Dr. Aukot onto the ballot paper was declined by Justice John Mativo.

“I do not wish to over emphasize on the issue of stay,” Machari indicated.

On Wednesday, Justice Mativo ruled that Dr. Aukot should be included in the repeat election slated for October 26th 2017.

The High Court further directed the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission to amend the gazette notice and include him as a candidate while ruling that all candidates who participated in the nullified presidential election qualify to run in the fresh election.
