President Kenyatta to camp in vote-rich Western, Rift Valley

President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Saturday, November 14th, kick off a three-tour of Western Kenya and the north Rift region.

During the tour, the Head of State will consult widely with regional leaders on issues affecting their residents.

The President will also inspect, commission and launch a number of development projects.

According to a statement by State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu, President Kenyatta will visit Kakamega, Bungoma, Kisumu, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties.

In Bungoma, President Kenyatta is expected to open the Lwakhakha border point before issuing charter to Kibabii University.

He will then meet leaders from the region for dinner at the Kakamega State Lodge.

According to the statement, the opening of the border post — a crossing point to Uganda — re-emphasizes Kenya’s commitment to the free movement of goods, services and people throughout the East African region.

“That commitment to openness is central to the region’s prosperity and ours. Equally, the grant of a charter to Kibabii University caps the long journey to a full university in Bungoma County. The successful end of that journey brings Bungoma new opportunities in education and enterprise; it brings home the promise of devolution,” read the statement in part.

On Sunday morning, President Kenyatta will attend a thanksgiving service at the Anglican Church of Kenya cathedral in Kisumu before travelling to Eldoret to meet leaders from Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu and Nandi counties at the Eldoret State Lodge.

On Monday, November 16th, the President will launch a number of projects in the North Rift.

He will launch a tractor project in Eldoret, before commissioning the Iluka-Elgeyo border road, and the Siyoi water project.

Later in the day, he will visit and inspect the Kapenguria Medical Training College campus.

“The road and water projects show the Jubilee government’s commitment to infrastructure, economic growth and equitable provision of services right across the country,” read the statement.

President Kenyatta is expected to return to Nairobi later on the Monday.
