President Kenyatta to Give State of the Nation Address

President Kenyatta’s address comes as the government grapples with rising insecurity and an increased number of corruption scandals in the public service and National Assembly.

President Kenyatta is expected to outline the government’s legislative agenda and key issues of national concern.

The fight against corruption is expected to top the President’s agenda, amid accusations that the government had lost the war against mega graft and failed to seal loopholes that were being used by well-connected individuals to siphon billions of shillings from the public coffers.

Other than updating the August House on the government’s progress in the development and social-economic agenda, the Head of State is expected to seek the legislature’s support on the 2014/15 budget, as well as the pending legislation, including those that have a constitutional deadline of August 27th, this year.

Such bills require the support of at least 233 lawmakers to be passed.

However, but the fight against corruption remains the Jubilee administration’s main headache, amid perception that the President and his Deputy had failed to decisively deal with perpetrators of graft from within the executive.

The President is expected to outline specific measures that his administration has put in place to ensure that public resources are not looted.
