President Kenyattas popularity slumps poll

President Uhuru Kenyatta remains the most preferred presidential candidate in the country with 47 per cent voters’ support.

The president’s popularity, however, slumped by 4 per cent between June 2016 and February 2017.

This is according to 2017 first quarter polls released by IPSOS Synovate.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga follows him with 30 per cent.

Wiper Democratic Movement Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi would finish third and four with 6 per cent and 3 per cent respectively.

Jubilee Party is ahead of the opposition’s National Super Alliance (NASA) Coalition as the most popular political outfit in the country with 11 per cent of voters saying they support it.

The president’s party enjoys 45 per cent support among Kenyans while NASA has 34 per cent.

Forty-one per cent of Kenyans believe that Raila Odinga would be more effective in fighting corruption in the country compared to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s 32 per cent.

President Uhuru Kenyatta wins electorates’ trust in steering the country’s economy in the right direction with 47 per cent confidence while Raila Odinga gets 32per cent.

Forty-nine per cent of the interviewees believed Raila Odinga should remain active in politics and even run for presidency if given a ticket by the opposition coalition, while 25 per cent want him to quit.

A section of Kenyans represented by 22 per cent want the opposition leader to stay in politics but not run for presidency.

In running the government, more Kenyans (42 per cent) trust President Uhuru Kenyatta than his deputy William Ruto (30 per cent) and the cabinet (14 per cent).
