President Launches Cash Transfer Program
The cash transfer programme that will see elderly persons receive Ksh 2,000 every month has been launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The aim of the programme is to reduce poverty levels in the country.
Others who will benefit from the programme are people with severe disabilities, orphans and other vulnerable children.
The program is estimated to reach out to an estimated 454,200 Kenyans once fully operation.
The largest group that will benefit from the cash are 253,000 vulnerable children, those above 65 years totaling 164, 000 and 27,200 disabled people.
The objective of the programme is to reduce the poverty index by 13 per cent, increase school enrolment, reduce child labour and improve food security in the household.
Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi announced on Sunday that 454,200 people would receive the monthly stipend to cushion them against the high cost of living.
