President Mugabe reads wrong speech in Parliament opener

Zimbabwe’s state-run newspaper The Herald reported that President Mugabe read out the wrong speech at the opening of parliament earlier on Tuesday.

“There has been a mix-up of speeches resulting in a situation where His Excellency the President delivered the wrong speech,” presidential spokesman George Charamba is quoted as saying.

“The mix-up happened in his secretarial office, therefore, the delivery in parliament should be set aside. The error is sincerely regretted and corrective measures are being considered.”

Reuters news agency reported that Mr Mugabe gave the same speech on August 25th, during his state of the nation address.

Some local journalists covering the speech on Twitter had their suspicions that something was amiss;
