President Obama, DP Ruto meet, shake hands at State House

U.S. President Barack Obama has met Deputy President William Ruto during the bilateral talks at State House, Nairobi despite speculations that the two would not meet as the DP has a pending case at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Saturday afternoon, Ruto shared a photo on his social media accounts saying; “Receiving President @BarackObama when he arrived at @StateHouseKenya for the bilateral talks @Potus.”

Experts had earlier on argued that President Obama would not meet Mr. Ruto until the charges against humanity case at the ICC is heard and determined.

On Friday, social media was rife with speculation as to why Ruto did not accompany President Uhuru Kenyatta to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to receive President Obama.

Early this week, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi hinted that President Obama and DP Ruto would meet but without any photo opportunities.

U.S.-based political commentator Prof. Makau Mutua had ruled out an Obama-Ruto meeting saying it would be a breach of protocol given that Ruto is not yet off the ICC hook.
