President Suspends Anti Graft Boss and Deputy

In a statement to the newsrooms, the President said that the two will remain suspended pending the outcome of the tribunal.

The President said that his decision followed a petition of Oriaro Geoffrey “desiring the removal from office of the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)”.

He said that the suspension was informed by “the consideration of the petition by the National Assembly and the resolution that the petition discloses sufficient grounds for the removal of the two commissioners”.

“Pursuant to Article 251 (4) (a) of the Constitution, I hereby suspended from the office of member and Chairperson, Mr Mumo Matemu; and from the office of member and Vice Chairperson of the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission Ms Irene Keino,” read the statement.

The two commissioners were suspended from “undertaking all functions and duties of those offices with immediate effect pending the outcome of the tribunal, which will be set up in accordance with the law”.

“This process in no way hinders the work of the organization which remains constitutionally established and operational.”
