President Uhuru Kenyatta opens Kenya House in Namibia

The President, who was accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, Cabinet Secretaries Amb Amina Mohamed (Foreign Affairs), Eng Michael Kamau (Transport) and the Kenya High Commissioner to Namibia, Isaac Njenga, opened the house after attending the inauguration of Dr Hage Geingob as the third President of Namibia.

After the opening ceremony President Kenyatta met Kenyans living in Namibia.

PEACE KEEPING MISSION

Also present were other Kenyans who had visited Namibia for the 25th anniversary celebrations, among them (Rtd) Lt Gen Daniel Opande.

(Rtd) Lt Gen Opande was among dignitaries who were invited to the celebration in recognition of the role he played as the Deputy Force Commander of the United Nations Transitional Assistance Group’s peacekeeping force in Namibia in 1989 and 1990.

President Kenyatta said it was a proud day for Kenya, since Namibia, in whose nation-building process Kenyans played a major role, was celebrating its silver jubilee and has turned out to be a stable country.

“It is a significant moment for us, we played a huge role when this country was achieving its new status as an independent nation,” said President Kenyatta.

PARTNER WITH NAMIBIANS

He called on Kenyans in Namibia to work in close association with their counterparts for their host nation’s prosperity.

“We came here to encourage our Namibian brothers and we would like to see more Kenyans coming here to work and partner with Namibians,” said President Kenyatta.

The President congratulated (Rtd) Lt Gen Opande and his team of Kenyan peacekeepers, whose work laid the foundation for good relations between Kenya and Namibia.

The High Commissioner said the fact that Kenya fully owns the High Commission building made Kenyans proud.

He said Kenya and Namibia enjoyed excellent bilateral relations in many fields.
