President Uhuru promises new road to soapstone mines

President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured the residents of Tabaka in Kisii County that his Government will reconstruct the Nyachenge-Tabaka road to ease the movement of goods and services to the famous soapstone mining township.

The President who was on the first leg of his tour to South Nyanza region told the residents of Tabaka that his tour of the County has  shown him the challenge they are facing with the poor state of the road.

The President said his Government is committed to the construction of roads throughout the country for ease transportation of its citizens and also attract more investors.

Tabaka Township is famous for soapstone mining and carvings which have been the major economic activity of the locals.

The industry has for generations employed thousands of young people within the region.

“We have always been flying passing or coming to this area, but today am grateful I have had a first-hand experience traveling by a car through this treacherous rough road. I want to assure you once am back in Nairobi we will discuss and plan on the reconstruction of this road which I will come and launch soon,” said President Kenyatta.

The President told the residents not to gamble with their future by voting opposition which has no development agenda for the country.

“Theirs is empty rhetoric and propaganda aimed at dividing wananchi,” the President said.

“We need peace, divisive politics and incitement of wananchi must come to an end.”
