Presidential hopeful in suicide attempt drama cleared by court to run

The High Court has compelled the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to receive presidential aspirant Solomon Gichira’s nomination papers within 36 hours, assess them and give him feedback on his aspiration status.
This is after a successful appeal by Gichira against IEBC decision to lock him out of the State House race alleging he did not comply with time lines he was slotted in to present his papers.
The court determined that IEBC did not communicate to Gichira on the day he was expected to present his papers before the commission as there was no evidence placed before court affirming the commission did so, hence rendering a nullity the decision to lock him out.
“Administrating an action that seem to violate individual’s rights must have evidence and explanation,” ruled Justice George Odunga.
Gichira had earlier on been turned away  by IEBC for allegedly presenting signatures of his supporters in PDF format contrary to excel format required by IEBC but got reprieve from the court that quashed IEBC demand.
He later was arraigned in court for allegedly attempting to commit suicide at the IEBC offices.
