Presidents Magufuli, Kenyatta commission the Nairobi Southern Bypass

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Tanzanian counterpart John Pombe Magufuli have officially commissioned the Nairobi Southern Bypass.

Speaking after the launch at the Ngong Road/Lenana interchange, President Kenyatta observed that the bypass has already eased traffic congestion on Ngong Road, Waiyaki Way and Industrial Area, adding that plans are underway to see the construction of a road connecting Western Kenya and Western Tanzania.

On his part, Magufuli lauded the Kenyan government on the state of the art project that provides seamless integration across the East African region with the dualling of Ngong Road which is currently underway.

Terming the Nairobi Southern Bypass road as both an “economic and social road,” President Magufuli said its completion is a major boost to road users and residents living along it.

The Tanzanian leader said certain areas should be set aside along the road for small traders to do business.

“I look forward to the day when I will make a stopover along the Southern by-pass to buy food from hawkers instead of going to a big hotel for the same. This will promote and improve the welfare of the ordinary citizens,” President Magufuli said.

The bypass, which starts from the junction of Mombasa Road through Langata Road, Ngong Road all the way to Kikuyu Town will decongest the Northern Corridor.
