Primary school teacher in court for sexually assaulting pupils

A primary school teacher has been charged in a Meru Court with sexually assaulting his pupils.

45-year-old Julius Mwiti, a teacher at Mugae Primary School, appeared before Meru Principal Magistrate Joseph Karanja and denied the charges.

He was released on Ksh 1 million bond with a surety of the similar amount.

Mwiti is facing 10 charges for sexually assaulting 10 girls aged between 8-11 years.

He is also facing 10 alternative counts for indecent acts with the children.

The court heard that Mwiti has allegedly been sexually assaulting the girls, mostly in standard four since January, with the recent offences being committed on March 8th at the school, which is located in Rwarera, Buuri Sub-County.

After denying the charges, defense lawyer George Mugambi filed three applications in court requesting that his client be granted a personal bond since he was an employee of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and working within the jurisdiction of the court.

Justice Karanja warned the accused against contacting the complainants, witnesses or their family members until the case is heard and determined.

The case will be mentioned on March 24th while hearing begins on July 13th.
