Primary school teacher, wife arrested with bhang, shisha, pain killers

A primary school teacher in Mwatate, Taita Taveta County was on Wednesday arrested for allegedly being in possession of bhang and shisha estimated to be worth Ksh.170,000.

Justus Kimonge Kicho, 48, was found with bhang worth Ksh.120,000 and one kilogram of shisha with a street value of Ksh.50,000 during  a police raid at his home.

The suspect’s wife was also arrested after being accused of selling painkiller drugs without proper government licences.

The two suspects were taken to Mwatate Police Station and are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.

The incident comes amid an intensified crackdown against drug trafficking at the coastal region.

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i last Sunday declared war on criminal gangs terrorizing residents in the area whom the CS claimed are linked to the movement of drugs in the region.

Speaking in Mombasa after a meeting with Regional and County security teams and local political leaders, Dr. Matiang’i said the government would intensify a crackdown to dismantle the criminal networks in the coastal region.
