Prison warder committs suicide by shooting self

A prison warder attached to Kericho Main prison has committed over unknown reasons in Kimugul village, Kelelwa sub location, Bureti, Kericho County.

Area chief Richard Chepkwony confirmed the incident saying that the officer reported at his work station early in the morning and was assigned daily duties after picking his G3 rifle as usual.

Chepkwony added that the officer allegedly sneaked out of the prison facility with the gun and went to his home village where he is said to have looked for a certain man with the intentions of shooting him.

The man is said to have learnt of the plot early enough and gone into hiding.

After missing his target, the officer went back to his house and turned the gun on himself while relatives were busy in their farms.

The villagers quickly reported the matter to the police at Roret police station who rushed to the scene and by the time of going to press they were still taking statements from eye witnesses before taking the body to the mortuary.
