Probox driver to serve 13 months in prison for carrying excess passengers

A court in Rongo on Friday sentenced a Probox driver to 13 months in jail or pay a fine of Ksh.67,000 after he was found guilty of carrying excess passengers.

Daniel Nyamau who was appearing before Rongo Senior Magistrate Raymond Langat, also faced another charge of driving with an expired insurance cover.

In his ruling, Senior Magistrate Langat noted that the accused breached traffic rules by carrying sixteen passengers in a car whose capacity is four passengers.

The court further fined Nyamau another Ksh.2000 for driving with an expired insurance cover totaling to Ksh.67000.

The court gave the accused 14 days to appeal the judgement failure to which he will either serve 13 months jail term or pay Ksh.67000 fine.
