Probox, houses and crops torched after court stopped funeral of woman reportedly bewitched by neighbour

The burial of a woman who died a week ago over allegations of witchcraft in Kalyet location, Londiani sub-county was halted after two families failed to reach an agreement.

The burial which was scheduled for Wednesday was stopped after the family of the woman who was accused of bewitching the deceased moved to court and obtained a court order blocking the internment.

She demanded that the family of the deceased compensates her for defamation and character assassination.

Ben Siele close kin of the deceased said family members who went to pick the body for the burial were turned away on account of the order.

Back at home, irate mourners who were already waiting for the body went on rampage and wreaked havoc on the homestead of the woman who obtained the court order.

Citizen Digital understands that a family house, a Toyota Probox and crops were torched during the incident.

The mob also proceeded to barricade the Londiani-Muhoroni road in a morning riddled with chaos.

Police officers who were deployed to quell the chaos had a hard time dispersing those who insisted that the burial had to go on as planned.

The dispute will be heard in court on Friday.
