Propagate hate at your own risk – PS to politicians

Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, has warned political aspirants against propagating hate speech and forming criminal gangs to disrupt the electoral system ahead of the 2017 General Election.

He cautioned them that no one is above the law and that action will be taken against anyone found culpable of incitement and propagating violent activities.

“There is no one who is above the law in this country. If you commit an offense, the law will take its course,” he said.

He noted that politicians are fond of committing offences and later use their tribes and clans as a shield to escape punishment.

He said the government is equipping its officers with secret recording devices to gather information from those politicians who will be inciting people and spreading hate speech.

He also urged Kenyans to register as voters and apply for identification cards so as to participate in the democratic process of electing leaders of their choice.

Unlike in the past, he said the government is processing national IDs within four weeks from the date of application because of election.

The PS was speaking on Friday at Samburu Guest House in Maralal town during official consultation on the projects to be funded through the Equalization Fund kitty allocated to Samburu County in the 2016 /2017 financial year.

The consultative meeting was attended by leaders including Samburu Women Representative, Maison Leshoomo, Samburu North MP, Alois Lentoimaga, and Nominated Senator, Naisula Lesuuda.
