Property worth millions burnt down at Laikipia University

Property worth millions was on Sunday, March 11, reduced to ashes after a fierce fire broke out at the main campus of Laikipia University in Nyahururu.

The inferno that began shortly after 7pm razed down an entire building hosting an examination room, a Cooperative Bank ATM machine and an ICT room packed with computers and various electronics.

No one was injured in the fire incident.

The University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Francis Lelo,  said the fire was first noticed by the security guards at the institution, noting that being on a weekend there were few students and staff on campus.

By the time fire fighters from Nyahururu town arrived at the scene, the building had been razed down to the ground.

On Sunday evening, Prof. Lelo said they the administration was yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.

He said further investigations into the incident would commence immediately as the management seeks to assess the extent of the damage caused by the fire.
