Property worth millions burnt down in Migori

Property worth millions was on Saturday, February 24,  destroyed after fire broke out at a motorcycle spare parts and repair shop in Sori town, Migori County.

The morning inferno gutted down the whole workshop consuming six motorcycles, several generators among other valuable items whose value was not immediately established.

Confirming the incident, Nyatike OCPD Dishon Chebaka said the cause of the fire would be established as police continued with investigations into the incident.

The OCPD appealed to the local traders to install fire extinguishers in their premises for emergency situations.

Meanwhile, Kenyans living in Migingo Island also want the county government to purchase them a fire fighting machine which can help them in case of fire outbreak.

Migingo Sub-location Assistant Chief Esther Masaku said people living in the Island are vulnerable to fire outbreaks due to the congestion of houses, business premises and petrol pumps in the area.

She said they were lucky that a fire that broke out recently at the island was contained before it could spread to other premises within the island.
