According to an eye witness, the fire started at around 8PM and was allegedly sparked off by a small explosion at a store near his hotel.

Traders at the scene were forced to flatten the structures around the fire to allow fire engines from the Fire Brigade, National Youth Service and private companies access to combat the fire.

The traders however say that the engines took a while to get to the fire and asked the county government to have a stand-by fire engine for the crowded market place.

Some of the traders believe that this was an act of arson following a row over a road that is supposed to be constructed and was to cut across the affected part of the market.

Buruburu Police Division Commander Richard Kerich said that they are yet to determine the cause of the fire.

He said they are currently interviewing eye witnesses.
