Property worth millions destroyed by morning inferno

Property worth millions of shillings was Sunday morning destroyed by a fire after a commercial building caught fire in Meru Town, Imenti North Sub County.

The 4pm inferno reportedly started in a tailoring shop after the owner left an iron box on and spread to adjacent rooms which host different types of businesses including salons, movie shops, clothing shops and many more.

Fire fighters from Meru County managed to put out the fire after two hours but residents criticised them for not having enough water as they had to and refill the truck when its water ran out.

“The county fire engine is not adequate,” noted one resident

Business owners in adjacent buildings were evacuated as others tried to salvage what they could, but unfortunately most of the property had caught fire.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
