Property worth millions destroyed in Maralal fire

Property worth million of shillings was on Monday destroyed after a fire broke out at a construction site in Maralal, Samburu County.

Sources say the fire was caused by a man who was harvesting grass while smoking.

The fire threatened to get out of control as it was still razing eight hours later. Some of the residents were up through the night fearing that it could spread into their buildings.

Area residents blamed poor disaster management saying the issue could have been dealt with faster.

They called upon the county government to provide man power and machinery such as enough fire trucks to deal with such issues.
