Prosecution Seeks More Time To Probe Timamy

The prosecution made the application this morning in a Mombasa court during the mention of the case facing Timamy.

State Counsel Alexander Muteti filed the application before Mombasa High Court Judge Martin Muya.

His application states that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution is requesting more time to conduct thorough investigations.

However, Timamy’s lawyer Ahmednasir Abdulahi opposed the application terming it political and wants the governor charged after the government’s initial 14 day request elapses.

Timamy, is out on a 20 million shilling bond or 5 million shilling cash bail.

The High Court Judge will make a ruling on the application tomorrow, Thursday.

Timamy is facing murder, forceful eviction of populations and terrorism over the Mpeketoni attacks.

The killings in Mpeketoni started on June 15 when heavily armed men raided the small town in Lamu County where they shot men and torched a number of businesses.

They also raided the local police station in the attack that lasted more than four hours.

The latest attack was on Sunday in Ras Kitau where homes and business premises were torched.

This came even as the Kenya Defence Forces intensified strikes inside Boni forest in search of militiamen said to be hiding there.
