Provide accurate data in public surveys, public told

Imenti North Deputy County Commissioner Jim Njoka has called on members of the public to give accurate information during surveys, saying information from such studies help the government in planning for development.

Speaking during the African Statistics Day Celebrations in Imenti North Sub County Friday, Meru Njoka said that the government uses data from such studies to prioritise development projects.

His sentiments were echoed by Meru County Director of Economic and Planning, Kenneth Muthee.

“The county integrated planning and development funds can only be better with timely, simplified and accessible statistics so that development can reach the 45 wards in Meru County. People would wish to see equal apportionment of projects and programs is in relation their needs,” he added.

Touching on the work of the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), Njoka and Muthee commended the body for ensuring that Kenyans from all walks of life are involved in surveys.

Meru County Statistics Officer Joseph M’Ekabu also commended local leaders, saying they have played a key role in sensitising the public about the importance of taking part in studies.

He disclosed that since 2012, 16 surveys have been completed on issues such as Corruption Perception, ICT coverage, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, and measles coverage.
