PSVs To Meet New Regulations By April 1st

The traffic rules were put in place by the Transport ministry to curb road carnage that was at a high.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Michael Kamau has since warned that the deadline remains to be April 1st 2014 for Public Service Vehicles to meet all requirements.

Dozens of matatu operators have however failed to beat the deadline and are currently in court seeking an extension of the deadline to enable them to comply.

The new regulations PSVs have to comply with include installation of digital speed governors.

Under the new law provisions, the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) will have the power to revoke drivers’ licenses, especially for repeat offenders.

Vehicles that defy the speed limits according to the new laws will be impounded.

The rush to meet the deadline is likely to set off a disruption of public transport across the country on Tuesday because most of the PSVs will not have met the required regulations by close of business on Monday.
