Psychiatrist: Onyancha was Unstable At Time Of Killings

The court heard that the condition made the suspect have hallucinatory experiences.

A consultant psychiatrist Dr Fredrick Owiti told Justice Nicholas Ombija that the mental illness made Onyancha mentally unstable at the time of the serial killings.

The medic reported that Onyancha admitted to have had many friends, obsessions with sexual acts, pornography and practising with women or small boys which for him was a hobby.

He further said that the suspect admitted to experiencing auditory voices giving him directions to commit evil.

In his opinion, Dr Owiti said that Onyancha had a chaotic introduction to chaotic life from a younger age.

He emphasized that his subsequent masturbatory acts and pornography could have been the cause of his psychological morbidity.

The doctor recommended that Onyancha would require treatment in maximum secure place because the danger of the mental illness is unpredictable should he be found guilty or not.

The hearing continues tomorrow with a police officer expected to testify.

The 32-year old Onyancha was arrested in 2010 after confessing that he killed more than 17 people.
