Public Transport Paralysed In The CBD

Public transport in many parts of Nairobi was paralysed early Wednesday after striking matatu operators blocked major roads to protest new parking fees introduced by the Nairobi County Government. City residents had to seek alternative transport means to work including trekking for long distances. The PSV operators accuse Governor Evans Kidero of reneging on a deal struck with them to lower parking rates. But the government has vowed to punish striking operators by confiscating number plates of vehicles used to block roads and warned it will revoke licenses for involved matatu SACCOs. Evelyn Wambui was on the ground and brings us this report.
