Pump prices down as petrol hits the below Ksh 90 mark

Super Petrol prices have gone down for the fourth consecutive month by Ksh 1.42 per litre.

The prices, as announced by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), will see the price of diesel also go down by Ksh 1.81 per litre and Kerosene Ksh 7.14 per litre.

According to the review, the new prices – which take effect from January 15th to February 14th, 2016, Super Petrol will retail at Ksh 88.64 in Nairobi, while diesel will retail at Ksh 76.70 per litre in the city and its environs.

Kerosene will now trade at Ksh 46.13 per litre in Nairobi.

The fuel prices will take effect across the country with major towns as follows:

Retail pump prices for Mombasa will be; Super Petrol at Ksh 85.34, Diesel at Ksh 73.43 and Kerosene at Ksh 43.44 per litre.

Retail pump prices for Kisumu will be; Super Petrol at Ksh 90.60, Diesel at Ksh 78.85 and Kerosene at Ksh 48.03 per litre.

Retail pump prices for Eldoret will be; Super Petrol at Ksh 90.54, Diesel at Ksh 78.78 and Kerosene at Ksh 48.04 per litre.

Retail pump prices for Nakuru will be; Super Petrol at Ksh 89.39, Diesel at Ksh 77.64 and Kerosene at Ksh 47.01 per litre.

According to ERC Director General Joseph Ng’ang’a, the new prices are as a result of the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol decreasing by 4.32 per cent from USD 542.02 per tonne in November 2015 to USD 518.63 per tonne in December 2015.

Further, the average landed cost of imported Diesel during the period decreased by 7.63 per cent from USD 475.53 per tonne in November to USD 439.25 per tonne in December.

The average landed cost of imported Kerosene during the same period decreased by 17.05 per cent from USD 485.70 per tonne to USD 402.87 per tonne.

ERC has warned oil traders against selling fuel beyond the recommended prices saying that any dealer found inflating the prices risks having their licenses withdrawn and paying a hefty fine.

In December 2015, Super Petrol prices fell by Ksh 0.40 per litre, Diesel by Ksh 1.15 per liter and Kerosene by Ksh 1.54 per litre.
