Pupils to stay home as roads submerged by floods in Nyatike

The Education Ministry has directed heads of schools affected by floods in Nyatike to temporarily release pupils from class three and below.

Officials said until the situation becomes manageable, floods will continue to affect learning in several schools in the region.

Nyatike sub county education director Elijah Kongere told Radio Ramogi that this may not be the best move as pupils will be disadvantaged in terms of syllabus coverage.

However, he said those unable to access the school should stay at home.

Mr. Kongere said the ministry is monitoring the flood situation and will be taking precautions to avoid any disasters.

Meanwhile, over 300 families in Nyora and Kabuto area in Nyatike Sub County have been displaced by floods.

The area Assistant chief Sospeter Oloo said many families were forced to vacate their homes on Tuesday night.

He revealed that the victims are yet to get access to a rescue camp because schools have been using the facility as classrooms.
