Qatar donates Ksh.50M to Kenya

The government has hit its Ksh. 800 million target it set out to seek for hosting the inaugural Blue Economy Conference.

This as Qatar government gave a Ksh.50 million donation towards the meeting.

Speaking in Nairobi, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Ambassador Macharia Kamau said the country still hoped to get an extra KSh.200 million towards the conference.

“I am happy to announce that we have raised the entire 800 million one month before the due date. Of that money we have received about half,” said PS Macharia Kamau.

The forum will be held in Nairobi between the 25th and 26th of November.

“We expect to raise about 1 billion by the time the conference is held. That means we are able to hold the conference as planned,” he added.

Its focus is on harnessing opportunities from Kenya’s water bodies.
