Ranguma, Oburu stripped

The ODM’s National Elections Board (NEB) has upheld the controversial nomination of Kisumu Senator Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o to fly the party’s ticket in the Governor’s race.

NEB Chairperson Judith Pareno confirmed Ny’ongo’s win, despite protests from the incumbent governor Jack Ranguma and Dr. Hezron MC’obewa, who claim that the Wednesday nominations were marred with massive irregularities and the list of victors announced by the county returning officer Ken Okong’o was predetermined.

The elections board also upheld the nomination of Siaya governor Cornel Rasanga, triumph was contested by Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo.

Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo could bid the August house goodbye, after the elections board confirmed that he had been trounced by his arch rival Elisha Odhiambo in the battle for the Orange ticket.

In Kisumu, Mr Nyong’o garnered 164, 110 votes in ODM party primaries against Ranguma’s 96, 480 votes; whereas Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga amassed 143,446 votes in the nominations against Gumbo, who managed to get 87,467 votes.

Nyong’os victory was announced by Okong’o at Thurdibuoro Secondary school, in Nyakach constituency, 70km away from Kisumu town while vote counting was still on.
