Raid at China owned TV station over illegal foreigners

An unknown number of foreigners working at China Global Television Network offices in Nairobi were on Wednesday arrested immigration officers in the ongoing crackdown on illegal immigrants.

In videos seen by Citizen Digital, the officers are seen bundling the foreigners out of the station’s headquarters that is situated in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, one of the employees who sought anonymity said the officers paralysed operations and ordered them not to move as they combed the building floor to floor.

Sources further said the officers demanded foreigners verify their documents and work permits.

By the time of going to press, the officers were still in the premise.

CGTN Africa is the African bureau of China Global Television Network, the English-language news channel run by Chinese state broadcaster China Central Television.

It is based in Nairobi and manages bureaus across Africa.
