Raila gives DPP three days to reveal Eurobond beneficiaries

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has issued a three-day ultimatum to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Keriako Tobiko to reveal the truth about the Eurobond scandal, saying that should Tobiko fail to make the information public, he (Raila) will expose those involved.

Odinga, who has dismissed the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) report which stated that no government official is implicated and that no Eurobond money was lost, insists that he has sufficient evidence against the anti-graft body’s statement.

Speaking in Siaya County, the Coalitions for Reforms and Democracy Leader (CORD) noted that the DPP ordered for further investigations by the Auditor General’s office after receiving the EACC report, adding that this points to the ‘fact’ that the anti-graft body’s report is suspicious.

“Tobiko ordered the EACC and the CID to conduct investigations and he gave them 10 day to carry out the probe. Yesterday he says he got back the report and it says that no crime as committed, therefore the file should be closed,” said Odinga.

Odinga warned the DPP against playing with the intelligence of Kenyans, asking him to come out clear on how much money was received and give all its transaction details lest he reveal it by himself.

“I would like to tell Tobiko that we do not want his games! Tell us whether or not the money was stolen; if you do not, I will,” warned the former premier.

The former Prime Minister made the remarks during a rally at Ugunja town in Ugunja constituency.

He reiterated his earlier stand that Jubilee government was not keen in the fight against corruption citing the incomplete investigations into the NYS scandal despite indications that millions of money was stolen.

Other leaders present include Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga, Ugunja MP James Opiyo Wandayi, Alego/Usonga politician Samuel Atandi and a host of Siaya MCAs among other dignitaries.

Over the past few months the opposition has raised numerous questions about the $2 billion (Sh175.1 billion) sovereign bond that Kenya raised in a bid to boost development in the country.

Though the Ministry of Finance, through Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, has maintained that none of the Eurobond cash has been embezzled, the former PM has continuously stated that the money has been misappropriated.

Raila’s allegations have sparked off bitter exchanges with top leaders in the Jubilee administration, leading the Deputy President William Ruto to brand him and ‘economic saboteur’.
