Raila hints at ODM going it alone in 2017 polls

ODM leader, Raila Odinga, continued with his Narok County tour where he was received by jubilant residents and leaders.

Odinga crisscrossed the main streets in the pastoralist town and later held a delegates meeting at African Hope Hall before proceeding to a major rally in Ilmashariani.

Addressing the delegates, Odinga said his tour was purely an ODM affair saying he was keen on strengthening his party ahead of the elections.

To this end, the opposition leader hinted at ODM going it alone in the elections and compared political parties in Kenya to religion.

He said his party had its structures indicating strongly that he was not in a rush to form coalitions ahead of the elections.

“A Muslim cannot go to a church and vice versa because they have their own set of rules and we cannot be coerced into hurried formation of coalitions,” stated Odinga.

“CORD is a homestead with different houses namely Wiper, Ford Kenya and ODM. We have to build our house and make it strong. When ODM is strong, CORD will be strong.”

Odinga said he was keen in making his party stronger noting that he was meeting his supporters ahead of the elections.

At the same time, he hit at the Jubilee coalition for what he termed perennial corruption.

“Their work is to eat meat while others are dying in hunger as if we are dogs that is why ODM as the government in waiting is preparing for a tough contest next year,” stated the opposition leader.

He portrayed himself as the best person to deal with the perennial conflicts and challenges that have faced the Maa community for ages.

“In Narok, we know how the floods have made people incur huge losses and this is because of what is happening in the Mau Forest and we will deal with this problem once we assume leadership in 2017”.

Nyamira Governor, John Nyangarama, MPs Gladys Wanga, Aisha Jumwa, Mishi Mboko, John Mbadi, Abdikadir Aden, Agnes Zani and former ICT Principal Secretary who is seeking the Narok Governor’s seat are among political leaders accompanying the ODM leader.
